West’s most interesting projects are those where her team gets to expand their skill sets and knowledge base. “One thing we do as a team is cherry-pick who we work with now,” she says. “It’s important to be completely engaged and excited about the client.We do our best work when we form a real partnership with them. We have to be completely stoked about the client or the project, and we have to be completely aligned with the project outcome – really believe in what we’re accomplishing.”
West is also addressing the role of technology in disaster recovery. “Our team was involved in the business recovery for 9-11 and post-Katrina. I saw so many businesses that we tried to help. But they couldn’t recover their data, because they didn’t have the pieces in place to make recovery possible – no disaster plan, no offsite data backup, no procedures or budget in place for disaster. Even when they had insurance, claims take time to resolve and in the meantime too often they lost their businesses.”
